Since the Renaissance, there has been an Italian "region" that is indissolubly linked to the noble Montefeltro family, the proud lords of Urbino. The most emblematic figure of this ancient duchy is the condottiero Federico da Montefeltro: on the six hundredth anniversary of his birth, he has returned to his court to relive the events that made him famous.

You compete in the development of the duchy, during the period from 1444 to 1482, implementing a strategy of balance between what you play and what you discard: the aim is to establish Districts by combining the most significant Works, in order to gain prestige, exploiting prominent Personalities to increase opportunities, and Events to hinder opponents.

The fun game is intended for 3-6 players aged 10 and up; the game has an average duration of 30 minutes and a low level of commitment. All editions contain the rules in Italian and English, and 112 cards: 6 Personalities, 84 Works – Military, Urban, Humanistic and Artistic – and 20 Historical Events.

The work was sponsored and supported by the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Urbino and was part of the Federician Celebrations 2022: Federico 600, confirming the remarkable tourist route of the rich cultural territory of Montefeltro. The components depict the historical settlements, the Works of the duchy, which have survived over time and today are a monumental heritage.

From the Romagna province of Rimini, the majestic Rocca di San Leo appears in the work, which towers over the Valmarecchia from the top of its rocky peak and is celebrated in the San Leo Special Edition. Also depicted is the imposing Rocca Fregoso of Sant'Agata Feltria, located on Monte Lupo: a cliff overlooking the Savio Valley, now also home to a museum.

From the Umbrian province of Perugia, the Ducal Palace of Gubbio appears in the work in all its elegant grandeur. In the city where the Duke was born, Federico himself entrusted the construction of this marvelous Renaissance building to Francesco di Giorgio Martini, who is also depicted on one of the character cards in the game.

Expert Game Inventor recognized by the Ministry of Public Education, he was born in Rome in 1966. He has published dozens of books, teaches, and contributes to many works. He loves reading and especially enjoys the books of Borges, Eco, and Calvino, and is passionate about Italian singer-songwriters. He appreciates good cuisine and has a past as an anonymous reviewer for a guide to Roman restaurants.

The institutions of Montefeltro have demonstrated the ability to disseminate culture not only academically, during the 2022 Gubbio Medieval Festival, by awarding Federico da Montefeltro: il Duca™ the Special Medieval Italy Award, for standing out in the promotion and enhancement of medieval heritage.

Urbino, then Sassocorvaro, Gubbio, San Leo, and Gradara are important examples to emulate. “Enlightened” institutions that have fully understood the educational and cultural value of the game as a tool. Each of these towns wanted to personalize, with beautiful dedicated dust jackets, the copies purchased to give even more value to the area and to tourism promotion.

Federico da Montefeltro: il Duca™ had the privilege of relying on the expertise and professionalism of Giovanni Volponi, who provided important historical consultancy. Born in Urbino in 1992, he has always been a passionate scholar of local history.

Federico da Montefeltro: il Duca™ introduces for the first time the feature of commitment. Usually, publishers disclose the number of players, the recommended minimum age, and the average duration of the game. With the commitment index, players know how much strategy, attention, and application are needed to compete for victory; the evaluation scale has five levels.

Federico da Montefeltro: il Duca™ is classified as a low commitment game (2/5), making it a work suitable for everyone. On the box stands out a colorful chart: the blue box contains the number of players, the magenta one the recommended minimum age, the yellow one the duration of a game, and the black one the commitment index.

To celebrate the six hundredth anniversary of the birth of the Duke, Federico da Montefeltro, in the most fitting way, a Special Limited Edition: 600™ has been published, numbered and limited to only six hundred copies for collectors and super-enthusiasts.
